The aim is to acquaint you with human rights, their development and history. At the end of this lesson, you should be able to list key dates and events in the development of human rights and to name key international and EU documents relevant for human rights protection.
The international organisations operating in Europe are particularly focused on the issue of the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms. Both the European Union (EU) and the Council of Europe (CoE) have adopted a number of different documents declaring the need for the protection of human rights. However, it is typical for both the EU and the CoE that they not only declare these rights but also monitor the observance of human rights, including observance by international judicial authorities such as the Court of Justice of the EU or European Court of Human Rights.
It is therefore important for each and every one of us to know what rights we are entitled to, and that we all are entitled to them regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
In this lesson, we will explain what human rights and freedoms are and their importance in everyday life.
Below are selected materials from which you will get an insight into this topic. Explore materials in your language and/or in English and note information that is new to you.
