Please, listen to the audio Thank you a message by Igor Grabovac, the WE PROJECT coordinator.
Dear Participant!
Igor Grabovac once again. Thank you very much for taking this educational journey with us and for making it all the way to the end. I hope you learned something and that you also had some fun while doing it.
The WE project educational platform is evolving and wants to be as approachable and user-friendly as possible, and we would like to hear your feedback. So if you could spare a few minutes to tell us a bit more about your experience and what we could do to improve it, that would be great. You can write in your own language, there is no need to do it in English.
If you would like to have a participation certificate for this course, you will also find the necessary information on how to achieve this on this page.
In the first podcast you heard from me, I gave you some basic information on why it is important to empower young lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex and queer people, and I spoke about the need to know your own rights and how negative experiences at work also influence other aspects of your life.
However, empowerment is important as it increases the visibility of diversity in our communities. Many research has shown that more visibility is associated with less discrimination and stigmatization in communities. Actually, knowing a person who is different than yourself makes you more appreciative and less likely to discriminate. Why is this? Because after a while, you notice that the things that divide you are only superficial, only skin deep, and that you share many similarities that you never thought of – maybe you listen to the same music, maybe you like the same art or same books or are fans of the same team, or maybe you have similar hobbies. And you discover more and more similarities that are more important than the things that divide you.
However, in order for young sexual and gender minority people to be visible, to come out, they need to feel safe and secure that if they do this they will not be discriminated. Therefore, it is the responsibility of all of us to create safe, friendly and welcoming environments. These types of changes have a multiplication effect, little by little, we move one step further to a more colorful, happy and accepting world – as Henry Ford once famously said: if we all move forward together, then success takes care of its self.
I want to thank you for taking your step with us.
Have a great day!
